IAABO BOARD 20

??????

Home Situation:   Team A commits a foul.  Table indicates that Team B is not in the bonus.  Team B takes the throw in and is eventually successful on a three point try.  Immediately the buzzer sounds and the scorer indicates Team B was in the bonus and should have been granted a 1&1.

Ruling:  This is a correctable error. Because the ball had already passed through the basket and no further foul has occurred, possession has changed to Team A even though the ball is still dead.  Count the 3 point basket, give Team B a 1 & 1 with no players on the lane line and allow  Team A to run the end line on the ensuing throw in.

Situation:  Referee, while checking the scorebook prior to the 10 minute mark, observes that the number of players listed in the scorebook for the home team is 11 despite the fact that there are 15 players warming up.  The Referee asks the scorekeeper about the discrepancy and is informed that the four missing names don't play in the games.

Ruling:   The Referee should go to the HEAD coach and inform him/her that either the names have to be added to the book or the four players must stop warming up as only team members may warm up.

Situation #2: A1 leaps into the air for a last-second shot at the end of the first quarter. B1 has established legal guarding position prior to A1 leaving the floor.  The horn sounds while the  ball is in the air and then A1 crashes into the torso of B1.  The ball enters the basket.

Ruling:  A1 has committed a player control foul and thus the goal is cancelled.  Officials should not ignore this contact.  If A1 had landed on the floor and then made contact the foul would be ignored unless it was ruled intentional or flagrant.

Situation #3:  B1 has received the bounce pass from the Lead official for the first of  two free throws.  Prior to the release of  the ball A1 crosses the 3-point arc and enters an unoccupied lane space.  The trail official observes this movement and raises an arm parallel to the floor with a closed fist indicating a potential violation on A1.  B1 seeing this bounces the ball back to the lead official.

Ruling:  The Lead official will now announce the violation and re-administer the free throws.  Prior to the release on the first shot the officials will raise their arm indicating the violation.  If the first shot is missed a substitute free throw will be granted for the original violation.
